Exceptional Crianza white wine from D.O.Ca, Rioja

Remelluri Blanco 2020 is a truly exceptional Crianza white wine from D.O.Ca, Rioja.

It's produced by the winery Granja de Remelluri in La Rioja (Spain).

I had one glass of this when I was in Mallorca - the joys of Coravin being able to preserve some pretty exceptional wines. I had been sticking to mainly local Mallorcan wines by the glass, but I splashed out on this one for a glass! (Retails around €60 / bottle)

Wow. Just lovely. 😍

πŸ‘ƒ Very obvious hit of white peach πŸ‘ and toasty 🍞 notes. I only really got them as I'd been practicing with the aromas kit from Le Nez Du Vin. And I eat a decent amount of white peaches πŸ˜…
πŸ‘… Much the same as the nose, but with some more ripe stone fruits peach πŸ‘ nectarine, possibly even a hint of over ripe pear 🍐. And secondary flavours from barrel fermentation - toast, vanilla, buttery. And some herby 🌿 notes which are hard to discern.

It's further aged for 18 months in french oak barrels.

It's silky, smooth, complex and a joy with each and every drop! The mouthfeel is exquisite!

Pronounced flavours. And a looooooong finish. I mean seriously long. I amazingly can still taste this wine an hour later and I'm loathed to drink anything else as it's just nectar in a glass!

Divine intervention on this one! πŸ™ πŸ€—

Oh and did I mention, it's made from 9 different grapes grown at altitude. A mother of a blended wine, here's some I could find a note of:

  • Garnacha blanca

  • Viognier

  • Sauvignon blanc

  • Chardonnay

  • Roussanne

  • Marsanne

  • (I love the expression of Chardonnay and Viognier together in particular!πŸ‘ŒπŸ™Œ)
